malaga seeks aznou loan

Malaga CF have opened talks with Everton over a season-long loan for Adam Aznou, the Hispano-Moroccan left-back who has spent most of this year with the Toffees’ U21 side in Premier League 2. The deal, first reported by German journalist Nico Linner and later confirmed by local Malaga media, would see the 20-year-old join the Spanish club for the 2026-27 campaign without, as things stand, any option to buy attached to the arrangement.

Malaga CF have opened talks with Everton over a season-long loan for left-back Adam Aznou, with no option to buy included.

The move fits a clear need identified by Malaga’s sporting department, which has flagged the left-back position as a priority in its squad planning. Coach Juanfran Funes is looking for a dynamic option on the left side capable of adding physical presence and attacking width, and Aznou’s profile matches that requirement closely. His background at Bayern Munich’s academy, followed by a €9 million transfer to Everton in 2025, points to a player with a strong technical foundation, even if first-team opportunities in the Premier League have been limited since his move to England. Aznou has also become an established member of the Atlas Lions, representing Morocco at the international level as his career continues to develop, a squad that also counts left-back Adam Masina among its ranks.

For Everton, the loan represents a straightforward solution to a familiar problem: how to keep developing a young asset who signed a long contract, running until 2029, but has not yet broken into the senior squad on a regular basis. Sending promising players out on loan to gain minutes is a well-established part of the club’s development approach, and Everton have previously shown openness to loaning Aznou out when suitable offers arose.

Spain is not unfamiliar territory for the player. He already spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Real Valladolid in LaLiga, an experience that appears to have factored into Everton’s willingness to contemplate Malaga as his next destination. From Malaga’s perspective, that spell offers some reassurance that Aznou can adapt to the physical and tactical demands of Spanish football without a lengthy adjustment period.

On the pitch, Aznou is regarded as an attacking-minded full-back, comfortable covering the entire flank in systems built around a back four or back five. His ball-carrying and involvement in build-up play are seen as his main strengths, qualities that align well with Malaga’s tactical intentions for the left side heading into next season.
