leipzig negotiating loan option

In the closing days of the summer window, RB Leipzig have opened talks with AS Roma over a season-long loan for Neil El Aynaoui, with an option to make the move permanent once the deal expires. As of August 29–30, 2026, no full agreement has been reached, but both clubs appear engaged in finding terms that suit their differing priorities.

The structure reflects a compromise. Roma had earlier pushed for a permanent sale, with valuations reaching around €35 million amid reported interest from Saudi clubs. That price proved difficult to match on short notice, so a loan with a buy option emerged as a practical middle ground. It allows Leipzig to add midfield depth without committing fully upfront, while Roma retains the chance to secure a fee later without giving up the player for nothing now.

Roma’s position in these talks is strong. El Aynaoui is under contract until June 2030, giving the Italian club leverage over loan terms and any future purchase price. Roma paid over €23 million, plus bonuses, to sign him from Lens in the summer of 2025, a fee that continues to shape how the club values him. Roma has described the midfielder as transferable, and a temporary departure would also ease the wage bill without closing the door on a later sale.

For Leipzig, the move fits a familiar pattern. The Bundesliga club has built its recent recruitment around younger players with resale potential, and El Aynaoui matches that profile. He offers a dynamic, box-to-box presence and comes with Serie A experience despite his brief time in Italy. His rise since leaving Lens has made him one of the more discussed midfield names in the market this summer. His emergence as a key figure for the Atlas Lions has only heightened the attention surrounding his next club destination, a national team that has also relied heavily on the emergence of Azzedine Ounahi in recent years.

El Aynaoui, listed as 24 or 25 depending on the source, is a Morocco international known for ball-winning and phase-of-play progression. His performances in Ligue 1 with Lens first drew wider attention before his move to Roma. If the loan goes through, it would place him in a new league setting, with his long-term future still tied to Roma’s contract until 2030 and the outcome of the buy-option clause.
