Yassir Zabiri of Racing Santander celebrates after reaching seven La Liga goals in eight appearances
Yassir Zabiri scored his seventh La Liga goal of the 2026/27 season against Valencia on October 11.

Yassir Zabiri has taken his La Liga tally to seven goals in eight appearances after scoring in Racing Santander’s 2-2 draw with Valencia on Sunday, October 11.

The 21-year-old Morocco international equalised in the 32nd minute at El Sardinero, continuing an impressive start to his first season in Spain’s top division.

Zabiri has scored seven times despite starting only five of Racing’s opening eight league matches. None of his goals have come from the penalty spot.

Zabiri scores again against Valencia

Valencia took an early lead through Dani Raba, who opened the scoring in the second minute.

Racing responded, and Zabiri brought the home side level after receiving a through ball from Íñigo Vicente. The Moroccan forward finished with his right foot from inside the penalty area, placing the ball beyond goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski.

Iván Martín put Racing ahead shortly after half-time, but David Otorbi equalised for Valencia in the 65th minute.

Zabiri remained on the pitch until the 87th minute before being replaced by Asier Villalibre.

The result leaves Racing with eight points from their opening eight matches, with the newly promoted side still searching for its first away victory.

Seven goals across four league matches

Zabiri’s scoring record has been built on several productive performances rather than a steady return of one goal per match.

He opened his La Liga account with a first-half hat-trick against Elche on August 28, scoring all three goals in Racing’s 3-2 victory. That performance was previously covered by Atlas Lions Insider following Racing’s first league win.

Two more goals followed in the 2-1 victory over Alavés on September 12, before he scored against Barcelona four days later.

His latest strike against Valencia brings the total to seven.

According to FBref’s match records, Zabiri has registered seven goals from 17 shots in 472 league minutes.

He has also contributed seven of Racing’s 13 league goals through eight matches, accounting for more than half of the team’s scoring output.

The figures highlight his importance to Racing’s attack during the opening weeks of the campaign, although the season remains at an early stage.

What Zabiri’s form means for Morocco

Zabiri’s club performances come as he begins establishing himself within Morocco’s senior national team.

The Marrakech-born forward received his first senior call-up under Mohamed Ouahbi in September, joining a squad that also included emerging players such as Abdellah Ouazane and Soufiane El-Faouzi.

He subsequently started Morocco’s 2-0 victory over Gabon on September 25, playing 61 minutes before being replaced by Soufiane Rahimi.

Zabiri was also part of the matchday squad for the 1-1 friendly draw with Mali on October 4 but did not feature.

His emergence adds another option to Morocco’s centre-forward pool as Ouahbi continues to assess the squad ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The national-team coaching staff have already begun integrating younger players into the senior setup, while maintaining experienced internationals across the squad.

Zabiri’s scoring form gives him a stronger case for further opportunities, although his place in the team will depend on continued performances and competition for selection.

For now, his immediate focus returns to La Liga, where Racing Santander face Osasuna away on October 18.
