fulham pushes for a t boudlal

Fulham keeps pushing for Rennes centre-back Aït Boudlal, but the French club refuses to budge on its valuation. The Premier League side’s opening approach, estimated at £19.6–20m (around €23m), was quickly dismissed by Rennes as far below what the club considers acceptable for a player it sees as central to its long-term project. Since then, Fulham has returned with improved offers, reportedly around €28m and then €35m including bonuses, but both proposals remain short of Rennes’ expectations.

Fulham’s bids keep climbing, €23m, then €28m, then €35m, yet Rennes still isn’t budging on Aït Boudlal.

Rennes’ sporting management has been consistent in its stance. Reports indicate the club values Aït Boudlal at close to €50m, or at least around £30m depending on the source, a gap that has kept negotiations stuck through much of August 2026. Multiple bids have been rejected, and there is no sign that Rennes feels pressure to sell before the window closes.

The reasoning behind this firm position is straightforward. Aït Boudlal, 20, is regarded in France as one of the more promising young centre-backs to emerge from Rennes’ academy system in recent seasons. He played 21 matches and scored twice across all competitions in 2025-2026, a workload that reflects genuine trust from the coaching staff rather than a fringe role. He is also a Moroccan international at youth level, adding to his profile as a defender with resale value and a growing international résumé, and he is considered a rising figure among the Atlas Lions set to shape Morocco’s national team future, following in the footsteps of established stalwarts like Jawad El Yamiq.

Rennes reportedly prefers to extend his contract, which already runs until June 2028, rather than negotiate an exit. That contract length gives the club leverage: there is no urgency to accept a discounted fee when the player is tied down for two more seasons. Sources close to the situation describe him as a “pépite,” a term French media often use for a rare young talent worth protecting rather than trading away quickly.

Fulham, for its part, has not walked away. The London club identified Aït Boudlal early as a primary defensive target and is reportedly working behind the scenes to close the valuation gap. Given the player’s age and profile, English interest is unlikely to fade soon, but unless Fulham meets Rennes’ asking price, or Rennes changes its stance, a deal before the window closes appears difficult to secure.
