morocco league resumes september 24

Morocco’s top flight resumes its title chase on September 24, when the Botola Pro 2026-2027 season kicks off across all 16 clubs. The date marks a later start than the traditional August-to-May calendar, a shift tied to adjustments in the national football schedule. Despite the delay, the competition keeps its familiar structure: a home-and-away format spanning 30 matchdays and 240 matches in total, with the season expected to close around June or July 2027.

Botola Pro’s 2026-2027 season kicks off September 24, later than usual, with 16 clubs set for 240 matches through mid-2027.

MAS Fès enters the campaign as defending champion after claiming a fifth national title in 2025-2026. That triumph came at the end of a tightly contested run-in, with MAS Fès, AS FAR, RS Berkane and Raja Casablanca separated by a narrow margin heading into the final two rounds. MAS Fès led with 55 points before a decisive trip to ninth-placed Kawkab Marrakech, while AS FAR faced a traditionally difficult away fixture at COD Meknès.

RS Berkane took on Wydad AC in a clash with major implications for the top of the table, and Raja Casablanca met Hassania Agadir in a game mixing title ambitions with Hassania’s fight to avoid relegation.

That closely fought finish has carried over into expectations for the new season. Raja Casablanca, Wydad Casablanca, AS FAR Rabat and RS Berkane are widely seen as the main contenders for the 2026-2027 title, according to sports media and prediction markets. A dedicated market for the runner-up spot rates Raja and Wydad as the most likely candidates, pointing to a possible Casablanca-versus-Casablanca duel for the top positions.

Behind them, FUS Rabat, Hassania Agadir, Difaâ El Jadida and Ittihad Tanger are considered credible outsiders for a European qualification spot or a top-four finish, reflecting a deeper and more competitive field than in recent seasons.

The league’s composition has also changed. US Amal Tiznit and WS Témara join Botola Pro as newly promoted clubs, according to statistical platforms tracking the competition. Their arrival will reshape the bottom half of the table, as both sides adjust to first-division football after coming up from lower tiers. Several Botola Pro clubs regularly supply players to the Atlas Lions, Morocco’s national team, whose federation oversees both the domestic league’s development and the country’s broader footballing achievements. On the national team side, Morocco has built its own consistency in recent years, backed by one of Morocco’s longest unbeaten runs in its footballing history.

With the calendar now set, the countdown to September 24 has begun.
