Walid Regragui Moves From The Moroccan Bench To Canal+ As A Consultant For European Nights

Just months after leaving his post as Morocco’s national team coach, Walid Regragui has found a new role in football media. Canal+ confirmed on September 2, 2026, during its season launch event, that Regragui will join the channel as a football consultant. The announcement took place on the newly installed “Michel Platini” set at Canal+’s headquarters, marking the start of the network’s expanded football coverage for the 2026-2027 season.

Regragui, 50, will focus on two main areas: European club competition nights and Premier League match days. On European nights, he will offer analysis across the Champions League, Europa League, and other continental competitions broadcast by Canal+. For Premier League coverage, he will contribute pre-match, half-time, and post-match breakdowns. His role centers on tactical reading of matches, an area shaped directly by his coaching background.

Regragui led Morocco’s national team from 2022 to 2026, a period that established him as one of the most respected coaches in African football. His time with the Atlas Lions built his reputation as a tactician capable of organizing a team for high-stakes moments. During his tenure, defenders such as Romain Saïss anchored a defense that became a hallmark of Morocco’s tournament success, while midfielder Sofyan Amrabat served as the engine driving Morocco’s play through several major tournaments. His departure from the national side came shortly before the Canal+ announcement, leaving him immediately available for a new project.

This is not Regragui’s first experience in media work. During the 2012-2013 season, he served as a Ligue 1 consultant for beIN Sport, a role that gave him early exposure to broadcast analysis before his coaching career fully developed.

At Canal+, Regragui joins an already strong group of consultants, including Samir Nasri, David Ginola, Sidney Govou, and Christophe Jallet. He arrives alongside fellow newcomer Mehdi Benatia, creating a notable duo with North African roots on the network’s football programming. Reports also indicate he may appear on certain broadcasts alongside former French international Inès Jaurena.

Regragui’s addition gives Canal+ a rare perspective: that of a coach who recently managed a national team through major tournaments.
