Anass Salah-Eddine looks set to leave Roma before the season progresses much further, with West Ham United submitting a season-long loan offer for the left-back as the summer transfer window neared its close, according to The Athletic. The report, relayed widely across English, Italian, Dutch and French media, described negotiations between the two clubs as close to completion, with only final details left to resolve before any complications arose.
The 24-year-old, contracted to Roma until 2028, has made just three appearances for the club since his move from FC Twente in February 2025, a deal worth around €8 million. Those outings amount to roughly 153 minutes of first-team football, a marginal return for a player of his profile. He was left out of matchday squads for Roma’s opening Serie A fixtures of the 2026-27 season against Fiorentina and Lecce, a clear signal that he does not figure in the club’s immediate plans.
Salah-Eddine spent last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven, where he made 17 appearances as a rotational full-back in the Eredivisie. That spell offered evidence he can still contribute at a competitive European level, even if it has not translated into opportunities back in Rome.
West Ham’s interest stems from a defensive reshuffle following the sale of El Hadji Malick Diouf to Brentford, coupled with early-season struggles at the back after relegation to the Championship. A left-footed defender with Serie A and Eredivisie experience is seen as a sensible fit to strengthen the left side of defense as the Hammers push for an immediate return to the Premier League. Notably, Salah-Eddine’s international future has already shifted this year, as he completed a FIFA-approved one-time switch from the Netherlands to Morocco.
The proposed structure, a straight season-long loan, is regarded by several outlets as a low-risk move for both parties. It would let West Ham assess Salah-Eddine over a full campaign before any decision on a permanent transfer, while Roma would gain relief on a player currently outside coach Gian Piero Gasperini’s plans. The presence of Dutch teammates such as Joel Veltman and Joel Piroe at West Ham has also been mentioned as a factor that could smooth his integration in London, should the move be finalized.
