Lille will be without Bilal Igamane for the entire Champions League regular phase after the striker underwent surgery for an injury sustained early in the AFCON final.
The injury occurred after a contact incident just minutes into the AFCON final, forcing him off early and requiring surgery. Lille outlined a recovery period expected to last several months, compromising the remainder of the 2025-2026 season and extending into the start of the new campaign.
Davide Ancelotti’s staff addressed the situation during a press conference ahead of the opening home fixture against Real Betis, confirming Igamane remains in a convalescence phase, working through structured rehabilitation without a clear timeline for full contact training or match fitness.
Igamane returned to Lille’s training center at the Domaine de Luchin in early May 2026 to begin a second phase of rehabilitation, though this stage has largely consisted of individualized care rather than group training or competitive minutes. Current estimates suggest a possible return no earlier than autumn 2026, with some projections pointing to October or later.
Club sources have not ruled out the possibility that his absence could stretch into November or December 2026, depending on how his recovery progresses.
With Igamane unavailable, Lille’s attacking responsibilities in the Champions League will fall primarily to Olivier Giroud, Ayase Ueda and Soriba Diaoune, supported by Gaëtan Perrin and Dilane Bakwa. Goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart was also excluded from the 24-man list, though for sporting reasons rather than injury.
Despite missing the entire regular phase, Igamane remains eligible for registration later in the competition. Should Lille finish among the top 24 clubs and qualify for the play-off round or reach the round of 16, the club could add him to an updated squad list, provided medical staff clear him to play.
