Morocco have dropped one place to seventh in the latest FIFA Men’s World Ranking, released on Wednesday, October 7, despite completing their recent international matches without defeat.

The Atlas Lions now have 1,805.34 ranking points, up from 1,803.99 in the previous official update on July 20. However, Portugal’s rise from seventh to fifth pushed both Morocco and Brazil down one position.

Morocco remain the highest-ranked national team in Africa and the Arab world.

Portugal move ahead of Morocco and Brazil

Portugal were the only team in the world’s top 10 to improve their position, climbing two places to fifth following four consecutive victories in the UEFA Nations League.

The Portuguese side now have 1,807.69 points, narrowly ahead of Brazil on 1,806.51 and Morocco on 1,805.34.

Just 2.35 ranking points separate Portugal in fifth from Morocco in seventh, while Brazil sit only 1.17 points ahead of the Atlas Lions.

Spain remain first in the world rankings, followed by Argentina, France and England.

Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked team

Morocco’s decline in the global standings has not affected their position at the top of the African rankings.

Senegal remain the continent’s second-highest-ranked national team in 18th place worldwide, followed by Egypt in 25th.

The Atlas Lions completed their recent international fixtures with two victories and a draw under head coach Mohamed Ouahbi.

Morocco defeated Gabon and Lesotho by identical 2-0 scorelines in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers before drawing 1-1 with Mali in a friendly at the Grand Stade de Tanger on October 4.

Abdessamad Ezzalzouli scored Morocco’s goal from the penalty spot in the 35th minute, before Gaoussou Diarra equalised for Mali in the 77th minute.

The results increased Morocco’s overall ranking points, but Portugal’s stronger gains were enough to change the order of the three closely placed teams.

The next official FIFA Men’s World Ranking will be published on November 18, 2026, following the next international window.
