harit impresses coach future clarified

Amine Harit’s summer at Marseille has quietly shifted his prospects. When he returned from a mixed loan spell at Istanbul Basaksehir, he was initially viewed as part of a squad open for sale, one name among many the club seemed ready to move on. That outlook has changed over the course of preseason.

A summer that began with Harit seemingly bound for the exit door has instead turned into an unlikely reprieve.

Harit spent much of the summer training and playing under Bruno Genesio, and his performances stood out. In friendlies against Athletic Bilbao, Atlético Madrid and Nice, he looked sharp and consistent, particularly on the right side of the attack. His display in the 3-1 win over Bilbao is seen as a turning point, the moment that pushed Genesio to reconsider his plans for the winger.

Since then, Harit has been a regular starter in preseason fixtures, often lining up alongside Igor Paixão and Amine Gouiri in a front three built around movement, pressing and quick combinations.

What has impressed the coaching staff isn’t only his technical quality, which was never in question, but his work without the ball. Genesio has reportedly valued Harit’s pressing and defensive discipline as much as his creativity, calling it a key reason he now sees him as a viable option on the right flank.

Publicly, Genesio has said he can rely on Harit even if Marseille bring in another attacker for that position, describing him as part of the rotation rather than someone at risk of being sidelined.

That stance marks a clear departure from where things stood at the start of the transfer window. Talks with a Qatari club were floated as a possible exit route, but nothing concrete materialized. Marseille’s hierarchy, meanwhile, appears open to keeping Harit, provided he accepts a reduced salary to fit the club’s financial framework.

With the season opener against Strasbourg approaching, Harit could realistically start on the right side of attack. Genesio has spoken about the player’s potential and the need to make the most of it, a message he’s delivered directly to Harit. For now, the momentum points toward a fresh start in Marseille rather than a farewell.
