begraoui transfer stalled by demands

Two clubs, one growing price tag: Lazio‘s pursuit of Yanis Begraoui is advancing, but Estoril‘s financial demands remain the central obstacle. The Moroccan forward has become a serious target for the Italian club, with reports suggesting negotiations are further along than many expected just weeks ago. Yet the gap between what Estoril wants and what Lazio prefers to pay still needs closing.

Negotiations have moved faster than expected, yet Lazio and Estoril remain divided by one stubborn number: the price.

Estoril’s valuation of Begraoui has been reported anywhere between €12m and €15m. Several outlets point to €12m as the club’s firm asking price, while others suggest Estoril has pushed the ceiling toward €15m for a definitive, permanent sale. That higher figure has been described by some French and African football media as the main sticking point preventing a quick agreement.

Lazio, for their part, are reportedly exploring a structured deal built around a €4m loan combined with a €9m purchase option, a package that would total €13m. That framework sits close to Begraoui’s release clause of €10m, though still above it.

Lazio are known to favor formula-based transfers, spreading costs over time rather than committing to an immediate lump sum, a strategy shaped by budget constraints common across Serie A clubs.

Estoril’s leverage stems from Begraoui’s contract, which runs until June 2028. That length removes any prospect of a free transfer and gives the Portuguese club room to negotiate firmly. The player’s release clause of €10m provides a baseline, but Estoril’s counter-demands reflect how much value the club believes it has created since signing him as a free agent in 2024.

His current market value, estimated at €12m by Transfermarkt, supports that argument.

One added complexity: Estoril does not control 100% of Begraoui’s economic rights, a detail that could affect how any transfer fee gets divided among stakeholders.

At 25, Begraoui represents an age where clubs weigh both immediate output and resale value, both relevant to Lazio’s calculations. While some reports describe an accepted bid and advanced personal terms, others maintain the two clubs remain apart on structure. Lazio’s interest also connects to their broader striker search, with Begraoui emerging as a concrete alternative alongside other targets like Boulaye Dia.
