zakaria aboukhlal nearing auxerre return

A Ligue 1 homecoming is taking shape for Zakaria Aboukhlal. According to several outlets, including Foot Mercato and Italian sources, AJ Auxerre and Torino have reached an agreement in principle over a loan move with a purchase option. Nothing has been signed yet, but the framework of the deal is reportedly settled: a season-long loan giving Auxerre the right, though not the obligation, to make the transfer permanent afterward.

Auxerre and Torino have reportedly agreed in principle on a season-long loan with a purchase option for Aboukhlal.

Reports describe the talks as very advanced, with only administrative and contractual details left to finalize before official confirmation. The timing matters. The negotiation is unfolding in the final hours before the summer transfer window closes, adding pressure on Auxerre to complete the signing before the deadline passes.

Aboukhlal joined Torino after leaving Toulouse FC, where he played from 2022 to 2025 and built his reputation in Ligue 1. Italian media have already described his Torino exit as effectively done, framing the loan-with-option formula as a low-risk way for Auxerre to bring him in while still keeping a path to a permanent deal. His market value is estimated between six and eight million euros, with a spring 2026 valuation near 7.5 million.

The Morocco international, capped 22 times, is now 26 and coming off a serious knee injury that kept him out for six months before he returned to action with Toulouse. He operates mainly as a right winger but can play across the front line. Missing out on recent international call-ups has reportedly increased his motivation to find regular playing time again, with the 2030 World Cup in view. He remains one of the most promising figures in a group widely known as the Atlas Lions, Morocco’s national football team, and regaining form is seen as key to keeping his place in that setup.

For Auxerre, the urgency is clear. The club sits last in Ligue 1 after losing its opening two matches, and the attack has been identified as the priority area to strengthen before the window shuts. Aboukhlal is seen as a direct response to that need, adding pace and goal threat to a squad searching for answers.

Until contracts are signed, the move remains a strong report rather than a confirmed transfer. But the direction of travel points toward a Ligue 1 return for the Moroccan winger.
