Samba Diawara is reportedly in advanced talks with the FRMF to join Mohamed Ouahbi’s Morocco coaching staff, according to Sky Sport Suisse journalist Sacha Tavolieri, though no contract has been signed and the federation has not confirmed the reports.
The discussions were first reported by journalist Sacha Tavolieri of Sky Sport Suisse before being relayed by African and Moroccan football media.
Two scenarios are reportedly under discussion. The first would see Diawara join Ouahbi’s staff with the senior Lions de l’Atlas as an assistant coach, potentially in a role described by some sources as sélectionneur adjoint. The second option involves an assignment with Morocco’s U23 or Olympic team, focused on development within the Espoirs setup. FRMF and Diawara are said to still be working through the precise contours of the mission, including the scope of responsibilities and the level at which he would operate.
Diawara currently serves as an assistant at Stade de Reims under Nicolas Usaï, having previously held the same role under Karel Geraerts. Before his time in Ligue 1, he built coaching experience in Belgium with Charleroi, Union Saint-Gilloise and Anderlecht.
As a player, he was a defender for clubs including Red Star and Troyes, and earned 14 caps for Mali between 1998 and 2003. His profile is seen by FRMF as a source of technical reinforcement drawn from European club football.
Ouahbi, appointed head coach of the Moroccan A team in March 2026, continues building out his technical staff. João Sacramento, who previously worked at PSG, AS Roma and Tottenham, was named first assistant earlier this year.
Other names cited in connection with the staff include Ayman Makroud for video and performance analysis, along with Ismail Taoussi and Youssouf Hadji. FRMF has described the staff-building process as still in progress, leaving room for additional appointments such as Diawara’s.
No contract has been signed, and FRMF has not issued any official statement naming Diawara. The talks remain described as advanced but unresolved, with the final scope of his potential role, whether alongside the senior squad or within the U23 structure, still under negotiation.
