Panathinaikos have signed Morocco international Salah-Eddine on loan from Roma, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the 2026/27 season.
The deal was reported as “done” around 12-13 September, with Salah-Eddine undergoing medical examinations in Athens on September 13-14 before the official announcement. He was present at OAKA Stadium over the weekend as Panathinaikos prepared for the fourth round of the Super League season, offering an informal introduction to supporters ahead of his official unveiling.
Financial terms remain disputed across outlets. Several reports have cited a purchase option worth around €7m plus €1m in bonuses, but Panathinaikos sources have denied this figure, insisting the actual clause is notably lower, possibly in the €5-6m range plus add-ons. Should the option be exercised at the end of the 2026/27 campaign, Salah-Eddine is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Greek club. Some reports also suggest Panathinaikos will cover roughly half of his wages during the loan period, with Roma covering the remainder.
Salah-Eddine’s Roma contract runs until mid-2028, meaning any failure to activate the buy option would send him back to the Italian club with two years still remaining on his deal. His previous loan at PSV, where he made 17 league appearances in 2025/26, ended without a permanent move after the Dutch club’s option to buy expired on July 1. Described as a rising star in football, Salah-Eddine has continued to build his reputation across multiple top European leagues.
Born in the Netherlands, Salah-Eddine came through Ajax before moving to Roma and later PSV, making Panathinaikos his fifth senior club. He remains a regular for the Morocco national team.
For Panathinaikos, the signing adds depth at left-back alongside fellow loanee Viktor Kristiansen, following an unsuccessful pursuit of Cristiano Biraghi. The move represents Roma’s final outgoing transfer of the summer window.
