Morocco has called up Ajax’s 17-year-old attacking midfielder Abdellah Ouazane to the senior national team for the first time.
Born in Amsterdam, Ouazane holds Moroccan nationality and plays as an attacking midfielder or winger, favoring his right foot. He wears the number 68 shirt for Ajax and Jong Ajax and is under contract until 30 June 2028, with his market value estimated at around €1.5 million.
His rise through Ajax’s ranks has been rapid. Ouazane made his competitive senior debut for the club on 17 December 2025 in a KNVB Cup match against Excelsior Maassluis, coming on at 16 years and 336 days old.
During the 2025-26 season, he made 25 appearances and scored 4 goals for Jong Ajax in the Eerste Divisie, while also featuring once for the first team in the cup.
The current campaign has seen him take a further step forward. Across roughly 9 to 11 senior appearances in the Eredivisie and European qualifiers, Ouazane has recorded 1 goal and around 3 assists, with match ratings generally in the mid-6 to high-7 range.
His most notable performance came against FC Sion in Conference League qualifying, where he provided two assists in a match reportedly watched in person by Ouahbi.
Ouazane’s international background includes spells with Morocco’s U-15 and U-17 teams, along with brief involvement in the Netherlands’ youth system. With Morocco U-17, he registered around 12 caps and 4 goals, and was part of the squad that won the 2025 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations. Much of his technical development has been credited to the youth pathway at the Mohammed VI Football Academy, a program known for shaping many of Morocco’s rising talents.
His decision to commit fully to Morocco was confirmed in mid-2026, described as a “choice of heart.”
The September squad, seen as a reshuffled group compared to Morocco’s 2026 World Cup roster, includes around ten new names. Ouazane is set to feature alongside attackers such as Brahim Díaz and Soufiane Rahimi as Morocco prepares to face Gabon and Lesotho in qualifiers, plus a friendly against Ghana.
