Roma and Panathinaikos are closing in on a season-long loan agreement for Moroccan international left-back Anass Salah-Eddine, 24, including a non-obligatory purchase option worth €7 million plus €1 million in bonuses.
The move is structured as a loan with a purchase option rather than an automatic or obligatory clause, leaving Panathinaikos free to decide whether to sign the player permanently at the end of the season. That option is reportedly valued at €7 million plus €1 million in bonuses, in line with both Roma’s valuation and earlier market estimates.
Earlier discussions between the two clubs had reportedly included a conditional obligation to buy tied to performance-related terms, before being revised into the current non-binding option.
Roma signed Salah-Eddine from FC Twente in February 2025 for around €8.5 million, and the club has faced pressure to recover value on that outlay. His time in the Italian capital has been limited to three first-team appearances and one assist, and head coach Gian Piero Gasperini did not include the 24-year-old in his plans for the 2026-27 campaign. Salah-Eddine has been regarded as a rising star in football, and this move gives him a fresh platform to reestablish that trajectory.
For Panathinaikos, the move addresses a specific need at left-back, adding a defender with experience across Serie A, the Eredivisie, and international football with Morocco. His arrival would make him the third Moroccan international at the club this window, joining a growing North African contingent that includes Azzedine Ounahi. Club officials reportedly see the structure as low-risk, allowing them to assess his performances in Greece before committing to a permanent deal.
