Yassine Bounou has claimed the Saudi Pro League’s Best Goalkeeper award for August 2026, adding another individual honor to his growing collection at Al Hilal. The recognition, announced by Saudi Pro League officials in early September, covers his performances across the first four rounds of the 2026-27 season. Bounou shared the August honors list with teammate Ruben Neves, who was named Best Player, underlining Al Hilal’s strong start to the campaign.
The numbers behind the award are straightforward. Bounou played all 360 minutes across four matches, conceding just three goals and keeping two clean sheets. That works out to an average of 0.75 goals conceded per game and a 50 percent clean-sheet ratio for the month. Al Hilal opened their league campaign with a 3-0 win in which Bounou faced no shots on target, then followed with results including a 3-2 and a 4-2 victory, the latter featuring three saves from the Moroccan goalkeeper.
These figures point to more than routine goalkeeping. Bounou has remained Al Hilal’s undisputed first-choice, completing every available minute in August without rotation. His shot-stopping and command of the penalty area were cited as key factors behind the award, and his consistency has helped Al Hilal build an early goal difference advantage that strengthens their position as title contenders this season.
Clean sheets from Bounou have also allowed Al Hilal’s attacking players more freedom, since a settled defense reduces the pressure to chase games. This dynamic reflects a broader trend in Bounou’s career at the club, where defensive reliability has often set the tone for victories. Bounou remains a central figure for the Atlas Lions, carrying his club form into his role as Morocco’s number one goalkeeper, a position he shares in depth with backup Ahmed Reda Tagnaouti.
This is not new territory for the Morocco international. Bounou was named Saudi Pro League Goalkeeper of the Season in 2023-24, a campaign that included 15 clean sheets and only 20 goals conceded. He has also won multiple Goalkeeper of the Month awards, including in October 2023, November 2023, February 2024, January 2025, October 2025, and May 2026. The latest honor extends a pattern of sustained excellence that has made him one of the league’s most dependable goalkeepers since joining Al Hilal.
