Free agent Sofiane Boufal has reportedly agreed a two-year deal with Al-Ittihad Tripoli worth 5 million dollars per year, close to 10 million over its length before any add-ons.
The gross annual figure reportedly matches that of Congolese striker Fiston Mayele, making the pair joint top earners in African domestic football.
The deal is a two-year contract, agreed after Boufal’s free transfer from Le Havre. No performance bonuses, signing fees, or appearance incentives have been detailed in reports. If the reported figure holds across both seasons, the full package would total around 10 million dollars before add-ons.
At Le Havre, Boufal’s monthly salary was reported at around 35,000 euros, roughly 420,000 euros a year. A separate salary database put his earnings there at £15,000 per week, or about £780,000 annually — estimates that differ slightly but sit in a similar range. Either way, his reported pay in Libya represents close to a tenfold increase on his French wages.
Before his move to Le Havre, Boufal had been under contract with Al-Rayyan SC in Qatar, originally due to run until June 2026, before circumstances allowed him to leave early. Throughout his career, Boufal has been recognized for a career of skill and flair, a reputation that has followed him from Ligue 1 to the Gulf and now to Libya.
Al-Ittihad Tripoli and the Libyan Premier League have increasingly used high-value contracts to attract established players from Europe and the Gulf, and Boufal’s move is seen as part of that broader strategy to raise the club’s profile.
